Dr. Waheedul Haque received his medical degree (M.D.) from Dow Medical College in Karachi Pakistan. He was then the Resident House Physician followed by the Registrar at the Jinnah Post-Graduate Medical Center also in Karachi. Dr. Haque completed his Rotating Internship at Deaconess Hospital in St. Louis MO, followed by his General Psychiatry Residency at Missouri Institute of Psychiatry also in St. Louis.
Dr. Haque has served in numerous capacities in the UTMB Department of Psychiatry to include Medical Director of Mary Moody Northen P3 and the Adult Psychiatric Day Hospital, and Attending Psychiatrist and Medical Director of the Acute Adult Inpatient Service. He currently serves as Attending Psychiatrist, Adult Inpatient Service for UTMB at St. Joseph Medical Center. Prior to arriving at UTMB, Dr. Haque was Medical Director, Halifax County Hospital in Nova Scotia Canada, Consultant to the Grace General Hospital in Ottawa Ontario Canada, and Attending Physician at the Royal Ottawa Hospital in Ottawa Ontario Canada.
He is a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (F.R.C.P.(C)), Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association (F.A.P.A.), and a member of the Texas Psychiatric Association.
Throughout his career he has served on numerous committees with Texas Society of Psychiatric Physicians, and on various committees at UTMB both institutionally and departmentally.
As an educator, Dr. Haque supervises residents and medical students on the Inpatient Psychiatry Rotation, conducts clinical case conferences with medical students on the Psychiatry Core Rotation, and lectures to medical students and residents.
