Dr. Michael O’Boyle holds the Harry H. Davis Endowed Professor in Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. Dr. O’Boyle received his medical degree (M.D.) from the University of Mississippi and his Ph.D. in Psychology from Florida State University. He completed his internship at Duke University following by residency at The New York Hospital Cornell Medical Center.
Prior to joining the faculty at UTMB, Dr. O’Boyle was an assistant professor of Psychology at University of Southern Mississippi. He joined UTMB as the Medical Director of the Older Adult Unit. He has served in various leadership positions at UTMB in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences to include Director of the Undergraduate Educational Program, Assistant Medical Director of the Clinical Research Unit, Medical Director of the Substance Abuse Program, Adult Inpatient Medical Director, and currently serves as the Director of the Adult Division of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. His clinical responsibilities include patients in the Psychiatry Clinic, the Infectious Disease Clinic, and supervision of resident clinics. His medical interest is in Geriatric Psychiatry.
He has served on both institutional and departmental committees and is currently a member of the departmental Residency Training Committee.
As an educator, in addition to resident clinic supervision, he supervises medical students in the clinical environment, and provides lectures to Psychiatry residents and medical students.
