Dr. John Kosty was born and raised in the Philadelphia metropolitan area. He attended the venerable University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine under a U.S. Air Force scholarship. Subsequently, he did his internship at Wright-Patterson Air Force Hospital, Ohio, prior to completing his orthopaedic residency training at the University of New Mexico Affiliated Hospitals program.
Following his honorable discharge from the Air Force at Keesler Air Force Hospital, Mississippi, he relocated to Galveston County where he has been affiliated with UTMB since 1988. He served as Vice President of the Galveston County Medical Society prior to its merger with Harris County, and in positions of leadership including Chief of Staff, and Chief of Surgery at Mainland Center Hospital.
Dr. Kosty has been on full time faculty at UTMB since 2002. He practices general orthopaedics within the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, including special interest in knee reconstructive surgery. He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, Texas Orthopaedic Society, and the Society of Military Orthopaedic Surgeons. He currently resides in Galveston County with his wife who is involved with city government and the League City homeless animal shelter, and where he is an active member of the American Legion.
