Dr. Kanika Bowen-Jallow was born in St. Louis, Missouri and raised in Austin, Texas. After completing her undergraduate degree at Texas A&M University, she attended medical school at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston (UTMB), Texas. Following the completion of medical school, Dr. Bowen-Jallow became a General Surgery resident at UTMB where she also received a Master of Medical Science degree from the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences. Dr. Bowen-Jallow finished her residency program training at Scott & White Memorial Hospital in Temple, Texas. Furthering her training, Dr. Bowen-Jallow then went on to complete a Pediatric Surgery Fellowship at Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles in Hollywood, California.
Dr. Bowen-Jallow is currently Assistant Professor in the Division of Pediatric Surgery, Department of Surgery and is the Director of the Adolescent Weight Loss Clinic at UTMB. Her special interests include pediatric healthcare disparities and pediatric surgery outcomes research. She is a member of the American College of Surgeons, American Pediatric Surgical Association, Children’s Oncology Group, Society of Black Academic Surgeons and the American Association of Pediatrics. Dr. Bowen-Jallow has authored or co-authored various publications in several peer-reviewed journals specializing in general surgery and pediatrics.

New-to-UTMB providers or individuals in less common areas of practice may be temporarily under this threshold. We set this baseline to ensure we offer the most accurate reflection of each Individual.
