Dr. Obos Ekhaese moved to Houston and attended San Jacinto College and the University of Houston. He then was admitted to Western University of Health Sciences, College of Osteopathic Medicine in Pomona, California. He completed his internship at Midwestern University, St. James Hospital, Olympia Fields, Illinois. He completed his General Surgery residency at Michigan State University, Pontiac Osteopathic Hospital, Pontiac, Michigan.

Dr. Ekhaese is certified by the American Board of Osteopathic Surgeons.

After residency, Dr. Ekhaese worked as a staff surgeon at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center, Mattoon, Illinois for 3 years. Then he decided to advance his training and completed a one-year fellowship in Minimally Invasive Surgery at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, Houston Northwest Medical Center.

He joined UTMB Health System as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery in 2009. His interests are in bariatric, endoscopic and laparoscopic surgery. Dr. Ekhaese is a Certified Robotic Surgeon [2010] with experience in robotic multi port & single site cholecystectomy, robotic inguinal hernia repair and robotic bariatric surgery. He also has an interest in Global Health.

Dr. Ekhaese is a member of the American Medical Association, American Osteopathic Association, American College of Osteopathic Surgeons, Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, Association of Academic Surgeons, National Medical Association, Texas Medical Association, Texas Association for Bariatric Surgery and the Houston Bariatric Society, Society of Black Academic Surgeons, Association for Academic Surgery, and American Hernia Society.
