In 2010, Dr. Sharma accepted a position as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB). Here, he works with the Transplant team performing multiorgan transplants, hepatobiliary/general surgeries and dialysis access surgeries. While at UTMB, he earned his FLS (Fundamental Laparoscopic Program) at SAGES (Society of American Gastroenterology and Endoscopic Surgeons) in Los Angeles, California and his FACS (Fellow of the American College of Surgeons).

Dr. Sharma is a member of several different societies, including:  ASTS (American Society of Transplant Surgery), IASO (Indian Association of Surgical Oncology), ILTS (International Liver Transplantation Society), TTS (Texas Transplantation Society) and is a Manuscript Reviewer for the Journal of Digestive Diseases and Sciences. He has had several articles in peer-reviewed journals, has completed several abstracts and has written a few book chapters.
