Dr. Nicholas H. Maassen was born and raised in Madison, Wisconsin and completed all of his academic and medical training in the University of Wisconsin educational system. After completion of his fellowship at the Beth Israel Medical Center in their Department of Orthopaedics, Shoulder and Elbow Service, he joined the Department of Orthopaedics as Assistant Professor at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas.

He is in the process of becoming board certified through the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons. Dr. Maassen is a current member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons; he is also a reviewer for the Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery and on the editorial board of the American Journal of Orthopaedics.

He and his wife recently welcomed their first child.
