Dr. Rao is a clinical professor in palliative medicine at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. Dr. Rao has served as a curriculum director and the fellowship director for geriatrics and palliative medicine. Medical students and residents have honored her with several Aesculapius Awards to recognize her teaching excellence. She was the 2009 recipient of the Texas Academy of Family Physician's Texas Exemplary Teaching Award, and a 2014 recipient of the Dean's Teaching Excellence Award at the University of Texas Medical School, Houston. She has presented at national meetings and authored several evidence-based reviews in medical journals.
