  • Dr. Leckie joined UTMB's Department of Family Medicine in 2016. She is an Assistant Professor of Family Medicine and serves as the department's Director of Behavioral Health.

    Dr. Leckie earned a dual Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and English Writing and Rhetoric from St. Edward's University in Austin, Texas. She then earned a Masters of Science and a Doctor of Philosophy from Texas Tech University with a concentration in Marriage and Family Therapy. Dr. Leckie completed a Medical Family Therapy Fellowship and earned an Advanced Specialization, co-sponsored by St. Mary's Family Medicine Residency in Grand Junction, Colorado, and the University of Colorado School of Medicine.

    As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Dr. Leckie sees patients at all three Family Medicine Clinics - Dickinson, Island East and Island West and will be an integral part of treating Family Medicine Patients in our patient-centered medical home model of care.

    Dr. Leckie's clinical and research interests are in collaborative and integrated health care, educating healthcare professionals in family systems and biopsychosocial-spiritual approaches to enhance family-centered care, especially with high-risk and complex populations. She also has interests in adverse childhood experiences prevention and intervention to promote family functioning and lifelong health, wellness and resiliency, the application of mindfulness in therapy, graduate medical education and health care and a strong focus on improving the clinician-patient relationship.

    In addition to her clinical practice, Dr. Leckie oversees the behavioral medicine curriculum for the UTMB Health Family Medicine Residency Program, giving resident physicians the skills they need to address their patients' psycho-social concerns and to improve their relationships with their patients. She also teaches motivational interviewing skills to medical students.
