  • Dr. Melnyk believes in delivering compassionate and competent psychiatric care to her patients. She emphasizes working together in order to develop personalized treatment plans for each of her patients, looking holistically at her patients through the lens of their physical, emotional, social, and spiritual wellbeing. She believes the therapeutic relationship is a key component to walking together on a patient's journey to healing. She has a special interest in weaving both components of therapy and medication to each session, while also discussing nutrition, movement, and creativity and their relationship to mental health.

    Dr. Melnyk is passionate about teaching. Not only has her enthusiasm helped her educate others, but it also has helped drive Dr. Melnyk to multiple academic achievements including being the Valedictorian of her high school and receiving a 4.0 GPA at Texas A&M in Biomedical Sciences. After completing her undergraduate degree, she attended The University of Texas Medical Branch for her medical school and psychiatry residency training. She received multiple nominations and awards for her excellence in teaching and dedication and compassion for her patients. She was nominated for overall best resident during her last year in her psychiatric residency where she served as the Chief Resident. She began her career after residency at UTMB as an assistant professor where she serves as the Co-Director for the first year medical students Neuroscience and Human Behavior Course, Co-Track Administrator for the Physician Healer Concentration for medical students, general adult outpatient psychiatrist, and peri-pan consultant psychiatrist. She continues her teaching in the outpatient clinic where she supervises medical students and residents in psychiatry, as well as outside work at the gym where she leads a hip-hop cardio fit dance class twice a week.

    She is a caring and compassionate psychiatrist with a special interest in treating the whole patient. She has a special interest in treating patients with history of trauma and offers her patients narrative exposure therapy as a treatment modality. She also is trained in leading mindfullness based stress reduction classes and will teach mindfullness and meditation techniques that her patients can use and build upon.

    In her free time she enjoys dancing and strength training, beach walks, cooking a new recipe, reading for fun, and spending time with her friends and family.
