Dr. Marilyn Marx received her B.S. from The University of Michigan and her M.D. from Rush Medical College. She completed her general surgical residency at The University of Texas Medical Branch, furthering her education by receiving a Master of Medical Science Degree from The University of Texas Medical Branch in 1987.
Dr. Marx is Board Certified by The American Board of Surgery and The American Board of Quality Assurance and Utilization Review Physicians, Inc. (ABQAURP), including a sub-specialty in Risk Management. Dr. Marx is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. In August of 2000, she graduated with honors from the University of Houston Clear Lake with a Master of Business Administration and was voted “Outstanding Student of the Year” by the business school faculty.
Upon completing her surgical residency, Dr. Marx was in private practice until 1997 when she joined the Department of Surgery at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. In addition to her clinical responsibilities as an Associate Professor of Surgery, she has served in several administrative appointments within the Faculty Group Practice over the past three years including Chief Medical Director for Outpatient Services, and Assistant Dean for Faculty Practice.
In her current role as Senior Associate Dean for Faculty Practice, Chief Physician Executive, Dr. Marx oversees all aspects of the medical school faculty practice, with a strong focus on strategic planning and the future development of the practice.
