Dr. Celia Chao is a board-certified surgical oncologist who attended the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and completed her General Surgery Residency at Yale New Haven Medical Center. She also has additional clinical fellowship training in Surgical Oncology from the Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia and completed a research fellowship at the Deaconess Hospital in Boston.
She has a clinical practice that focuses primarily on the surgical management of breast cancers. Her laboratory research interests relate to studies in the cancer microenvironment and cancer stem cells. She has over 100 peer-reviewed publications and has been the recipient of the Society of Surgical Oncology Clinical Investigator Award and the National Cancer Institute Career Development Award.
She is actively involved in training of medical students, surgical residents, and graduate students in the Human Pathophysiology and Translational Medicine Graduate Program. She is the current Director of the Masters in Medical Science Program, Director of the Clinical Trials Studio in the Institute for Translational Sciences and is a Professor in the Department of Surgery at the University of Texas Medical Branch.
