Dr. Shehzad Merwat is currently an Assistant Professor in the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Department of Internal Medicine at The University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) in Galveston. Dr. Merwat did his residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Texas Health Sciences Center. He has subsequently done a Fellowship in Gastroenterology at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston and a Fellowship in Transplant Hepatology at the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. Dr. Merwat is Board Certified in Gastroenterology and Board Certified in Transplant Hepatology. He is currently the Medical Director of Liver Transplantation and the UNOS primary transplant physician at UTMB.

He is a member of the American College of Gastroenterology, American Association for the Study of Liver Disease, and the European Association for the Study of the Liver.

Dr. Merwat's clinical expertise lies in the care of patient with advanced cirrhosis of the liver and portal hypertension in need of liver transplantation.
