  • Dr. Sagar Kamprath joined the Department of Family Medicine in 2019 as the Integrative and Behavioral Medicine Fellow. He currently serves as an Assistant Professor.

    Dr. Kamprath earned a Bachelor's of Science from the University of Pittsburgh in Reading, Pennsylvania and a Doctorate of Medicine from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He completed a residency at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Shadyside Family Medicine Residency Program.

    Dr. Kamprath is certified by the American Board of Family Medicine.

    Dr. Kamprath's clinical interests include Ayurveda (traditional Indian medicine), mindfulness, Kampo (traditional Japanese medicine), nutrition, and calisthenics. As a medical student, he completed a scholarly project exploring the efficacy of mindfulness meditation as a modality to improve pain perception and blood pressure in older adults with back pain. He has traveled extensively to Japan for global health training (he is fluent in Japanese), and has studied the aging crisis in Japan, as well as medical traditions of Japan (Kampo) and India (Ayurveda). In May 2019, Dr. Kamprath presented his work to the World Organization of Family Doctors' Asia Pacific Conference in Kyoto, Japan.

  • Dr Lorena Salcedo was born in Bogota, Colombia. She completed part of her education in Montreal, Canada before moving to Dallas, Texas. She completed her undergraduate education with honors from the University of Texas at Dallas in Mathematics. Dr Salcedo obtained her MD from the UTMB School of Medicine and completed her Family Medicine residency at Baylor Scott and White in Temple, Texas.

    Dr Salcedo has a passion for International Medicine and Global Health. She has participated in Medical Missions in Kenya, Vietnam, Costa Rica and Guatemala. She is fluent in Spanish, English and French and enjoys serving a multicultural population. Her clinical interests include minor procedures, Women's Health, and preventive medicine.

    In her free time, Dr Salcedo enjoys traveling and spending time with her husband who is also a physician and practices Neurological Surgery at UTMB. She is proud to be a member of the UTMB team and looks forward to making a difference in our community

  • Dr. Victor S. Sierpina is the W.D. and Laura Nell Nicholson Family Professor of Integrative Medicine at the University of Texas Medical Branch.

    He joined UTMB's Department of Family Medicine in 1996. He attended medical school at the Abraham Lincoln School of Medicine at the University of Illinois in Chicago. He completed his internship and residency in Family Practice at the MacNeal Memorial Hospital in Berwyn, Illinois. After completing his residency he did advanced study in Medical Acupuncture for Physicians at the UCLA School of Medicine.

    Dr. Sierpina is board certified by both the American Board of Family Medicine and the American Board of Integrative and Holistic Medicine. Dr. Sierpina's interests are in medical student education in Family Medicine, Integrative Medicine and Integrative Oncology.   • Dr. Islam returns to UTMB Health after serving is an Associate Professor and Research Director for the Department of Family and Community Medicine at Texas Tech University in Odessa. Dr. Islam received his Doctorate of Medicine from University of Dhaka in Bangladesh. He then earned a Master's of Science degree in epidemiology from the University of Texas at Houston. Dr. Islam went on to pursue his medical training with a family medicine residency at State University of New York Health Sciences Center in Brooklyn.

    Prior to his position at Texas Tech, Dr. Islam worked as a faculty member in UTMB Health's Department of Family Medicine for 10 years. During his career, Dr. Islam has been involved in over twenty-five clinical research projects and published 13 articles. In addition, Dr. Islam has over 25 state, national, and international poster presentations to his credit. Dr Islam is board certified in Family Medicine. He is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, Texas Academy of Family Physicians, and Society of Teachers of Family Medicine.

    Dr. Islam's clinical interests are in serving the Asian and Hispanic populations with an emphasis on treating those with diabetes, cardiovascular disease and obesity. Dr. Islam is fluent in Spanish, Urdu, Hindi and Bengali.

  • Dr. Elizabeth Jaramillo graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Science from the University of Texas Pan American in Edinburg, Texas in 2005.  She attended medical school at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) in Galveston, Texas and graduated in 2009. She continued her training at UTMB with a residency in Internal Medicine, graduating in 2012, and a fellowship in Geriatrics, graduating in 2013.

    She had developed an interest in health outcomes research and pursued it while seeing patients once a week. She became a Scholar with the Sealy Center on Aging, completed the Scholars in Education program, and in 2014 she was awarded a KL-2 grant, funded through the UTMB Clinical Science and Translational Award.

    She became an Assistant Professor in the Institute for Translational Sciences and continued her research on overuse of cancer screening in older adults. During this time she worked toward a Masters Degree in Science (Clinical Science) and graduated in August 2015. She continued research at UTMB and started working on Project 1 of the Patient Centered Outcome Research Grant at UTMB. This evaluated older women's thoughts, beliefs, and opinions on screening mammography for breast cancer.

    While she continued to see patients once a week and enjoyed her research she wanted to spend more time with patients in clinic. She started working at the UTMB Community Based Clinic in Angleton, Texas in June 2016.

  • Dr. Bhardwaj joined UTMB's Department of Family Medicine in 2018. She is an Assistant Professor of Family Medicine.

    Dr. Bhardwaj earned a Bachelor of Arts in Biology and a Bachelor of Science in Human Biology from the University of Texas at Austin and a Doctor of Medicine from Ross University in Dominica, West Indies. She completed family medicine residency training at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, where she also served as Chief Resident in her final year of training. Dr. Bhardwaj also completed fellowship training in primary care sports medicine at Texas Tech University Health Science Center at El Paso.

    Dr. Bhardwaj is certified by the American Board of Family Medicine in Family Medicine and Sports Medicine, and is licensed to practice medicine in Indiana, Texas, and New Mexico.
