  • Dr. Caryl Guillermo received her medical degree from the University of the East Ramon Magsaysay in the Philippines. She completed her residency in Family Practice at the Wichita Falls Family Practice Residency Program, an affiliate of UT-Southwestern in Dallas. Dr. Guillermo is following in the footsteps of her father, Dr. Benjamin Guillermo, who has been a practicing physician in the Clear Lake-area for over 15 years. Dr. Guillermo is board certified with the American Board of Family Medicine. She is a member of the American Academy of Family Practice and American Medical Association. Dr. Guillermo's practice philosophy is to help her patients by listening and caring for them physically, emotionally, and spiritually.   • Dr. Sagar Kamprath joined the Department of Family Medicine in 2019 as the Integrative and Behavioral Medicine Fellow. He currently serves as an Assistant Professor.

    Dr. Kamprath earned a Bachelor's of Science from the University of Pittsburgh in Reading, Pennsylvania and a Doctorate of Medicine from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He completed a residency at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Shadyside Family Medicine Residency Program.

    Dr. Kamprath is certified by the American Board of Family Medicine.

    Dr. Kamprath's clinical interests include Ayurveda (traditional Indian medicine), mindfulness, Kampo (traditional Japanese medicine), nutrition, and calisthenics. As a medical student, he completed a scholarly project exploring the efficacy of mindfulness meditation as a modality to improve pain perception and blood pressure in older adults with back pain. He has traveled extensively to Japan for global health training (he is fluent in Japanese), and has studied the aging crisis in Japan, as well as medical traditions of Japan (Kampo) and India (Ayurveda). In May 2019, Dr. Kamprath presented his work to the World Organization of Family Doctors' Asia Pacific Conference in Kyoto, Japan.

  • Dr. Islam returns to UTMB Health after serving is an Associate Professor and Research Director for the Department of Family and Community Medicine at Texas Tech University in Odessa. Dr. Islam received his Doctorate of Medicine from University of Dhaka in Bangladesh. He then earned a Master's of Science degree in epidemiology from the University of Texas at Houston. Dr. Islam went on to pursue his medical training with a family medicine residency at State University of New York Health Sciences Center in Brooklyn.

    Prior to his position at Texas Tech, Dr. Islam worked as a faculty member in UTMB Health's Department of Family Medicine for 10 years.   • Dr. Namita Bhardwaj is a native Houstonian. She completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Texas at Austin where she completed her undergraduate coursework in biology and earned her Bachelors of Science and Bachelors of Arts. She went on to attend Ross University to complete her medical education and to earn her MD.

    Dr. Bhardwaj completed her family medicine residency at UT Health in Houston, TX. She served as chief resident in her final year of training and was recognized as an outstanding PGY 3 resident and awarded the Scholarly Achievement Award. Dr. Bhardwaj then went on to pursue her fellowship training in Primary Care Sports Medicine at Texas Tech Health Sciences Center in El Paso. There she served as team physician for several of the local teams including the El Paso Rhinos, University of Texas at El Paso Division I Sports teams, as well as area high schools covering a wide array of sports.

    In her role at UTMB, Dr. Bhardwaj serves as the medical director for Galveston ISD. You can always find her and her team of residents and students on the sidelines at Ball High School football games. Dr. Bhardwaj's scholarly interests include opioids and sports related injuries. She has also served as Physician of the Day for the Texas Legislature. Dr. Bhardwaj enjoys attending sporting events, spending time with family and friends, reading and traveling in her spare time.

  • Jenny Blackman grew up in the Houston area and from a young age knew that she wanted to be a Nurse Practitioner. Jenny attended nursing school at UT Health Houston in the Texas Medical Center. After two years of inpatient ICU nursing, she began working on her master's degree in nursing to become a Nurse Practitioner.

    In 2018, Jenny graduated with honors and became a Family Nurse Practitioner. She loves having the ability to care for the community where she grew up. Outside of work, Jenny loves to play soccer and sand volleyball with friends and enjoys spending time with her family at their family ranch.

  • Dr. Thomas Blackwell received his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch, and completed his residency at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center.  Dr. Blackwell is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Emergency Medicine.  His special interests are student and residency education.

    Dr. Blackwell is the Associate Dean for Graduate Medical Education and Professor of General Internal Medicine at the University of Texas Medical Branch.  In addition to a busy private practice, he has major administrative and teaching duties at UTMB.  As the Associate Dean for Graduate Medical Education, he has administrative oversight of 50+ residencies and approximately 590 residents / fellows in training.  Previously, he was the Director for the Division of General Internal Medicine and the Medical Director for the Harborside Medical Group.  Also, he was the Program Director for the Internal Medicine Residency training program for 19 years.

    At a national level, Dr. Blackwell has been selected for a 6-year appointment as a member of the ACGME Accreditation Appeals Panel for Internal Medicine.  He is the past chair of the Internal Medicine Residency Review Committee, which regulates all training in Internal Medicine and its subspecialties.  He was a member of the Board of Directors of the American Board of Internal Medicine from 2004 - 2008.
