  • Dr. A. Scott Rogers graduated magna cum laude from Vanderbilt University with a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering in 1978. He received his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. Dr. Rogers has been in private practice in the Angleton community since 1985 before joining UTMB in 2015. He has been involved in both civic and business organizations serving as medical director, a local business leader and volunteer.

    A resident of Angleton for 35 years, Dr. Rogers is married and has two sons. He looks forward to continue serving his existing and new patients in his new location.

  • Dr. Shepherd joined the faculty of UTMB's Department of Family Medicine in 1995. She completed both medical school and her residency at UTMB and prior to joining the faculty at UTMB she was in private practice.

    During her tenure, Dr. Shepherd has held several leadership roles including Director of the Family Medicine Residency Program, Director of the Gulf Health Care Center Nursing Home Service and was instrumental in starting the Ball High School Teen Health Clinic. Dr. Shepherd is currently the Departmental Vice Chair for Clinical Affairs and also serves as Medical Director of the Family Medicine Island West Clinic.
     
    Dr. Shepherd is board certified in Family Medicine by the American Board of Family Medicine and her interests are in research, primary prevention, and clinical interventions for osteoporosis.

  • Dr. Victor S. Sierpina is the W.D. and Laura Nell Nicholson Family Professor of Integrative Medicine at the University of Texas Medical Branch.

    He joined UTMB's Department of Family Medicine in 1996. He attended medical school at the Abraham Lincoln School of Medicine at the University of Illinois in Chicago. He completed his internship and residency in Family Practice at the MacNeal Memorial Hospital in Berwyn, Illinois. After completing his residency he did advanced study in Medical Acupuncture for Physicians at the UCLA School of Medicine.

    Dr. Sierpina is board certified by both the American Board of Family Medicine and the American Board of Integrative and Holistic Medicine. Dr. Sierpina's interests are in medical student education in Family Medicine, Integrative Medicine and Integrative Oncology. His practice includes acupuncture, nutrition, botanical medicine and mind-body therapies.

  • Dr. Lindsay Sonstein is the Program Director for the IM residency program, Vice Chair of Graduate Medical Education and the Clinical Vice Chair for the department of Internal Medicine. She joined the faculty in 2008, after completing her medical school, residency and chief residency at UTMB in Galveston.

    She has a passion for quality and gained training in the field of health care quality by attending MD Anderson cancer center clinical safety, effectiveness course and AAMC teach for quality program. She has presented her quality work locally and regionally and has won awards for her work at the UT System Building Bridges conference as well as received funding from the UT system for development of a Train the Trainer Education model for QI.

    Her interests and current projects focus on quality of care, patient satisfaction, innovative health delivery systems and residency education. She is a member of Association of Program Directors in Internal Medicine and has been an active member of the program planning committee since 2018. Additionally, she is a national member of the PD advisory board for NEJM knowledge +. She has won numerous teaching and educational awards and was inducted as a member of the UTMB Academy of Master Teachers in September 2012 and UTMB Academy of Master clinicians in 2018.

    She currently attends on the wards in Jennie Sealy Hospital, is a faculty preceptor, and sees private patients on Daniels Team.

  • Dr. Thompson joined UTMB's Department of Family Medicine in 1972. Dr. Thompson became Chairman of the Department of Family Medicine in 1998. She attended medical school at UTMB and did an internship at St. Vincent's Hospital in New York City. Following her internship, she returned to Galveston and became one of the first graduates of the Family Medicine Residency program at UTMB. Dr. Thompson is board certified in Family Medicine by the American Board of Family Medicine. She also has added credentials in Geriatrics. Her interests include medical student education, resident education and medical history and ethics.

    Dr. Thompson serves as our clinician lead for the Primary Care Medical Home designation by NCQA for our family medicine clinics.
