  • Dr. Rangasetty completed his fellowship training in cardiovascular medicine and interventional cardiology at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, TX. He joined UTMB as Assistant Professor of Medicine in Interventional Cardiology in 2011. Dr. Rangasetty has focused on all aspects of interventional cardiology here at UTMB. As Associate Director of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory at Jennie Sealy Hospital, he has contributed significantly to the establishment of trans-radial, complex coronary and structural interventions. He has worked closely with cardiac surgeons and other interventional cardiologists to establish a TAVR program.

    Dr. Rangasetty is the Director of the Interventional Cardiology Fellowship Program, and enjoys mentoring and coaching interventional fellows. Dr. Rangasetty is passionate about his career and loves spending his time in the catheterization laboratory. His intervention skill set consists of: complex coronary lesions (CHIP), transcatheter aortic valve replacements (TAVR), Left atrial appendage closure with watchman device, atrial septal defect and patent foramen ovale (PFO) closures, balloon aortic valvuloplasty, mitral valvuloplasty, percutaneous pulmonary valvuloplasty, cardiomems, and paravalvular leak closures. He also performs carotid, renal, iliac and SFA interventions.

  • Dr. George Carayannopoulos was born and raised in Dallas, Texas and completed all of his academic and medical training in the University of Texas educational system. After completion of his Cardiac Electrophysiology training at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, he was selected as one of six cardiologists to care for all of the international athletes and staff residing in the Olympic Village for the 2004 Athens Olympic Games. Upon the completion of the Olympic Games in Athens, Greece, Dr. Carayannopoulos moved to Long Island, New York where he started Heart Rhythm Consultants of New York a practice created to address the cardiac electrophysiology needs of the community on Long Island.

    During his time in New York he held the position of Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at the State University of New York – Stony Brook University Hospital. He also served in several leadership positions including Director of Cardiac Electrophysiology at St. Catherine of Siena Hospital, Vice-chair of Suffolk County H.E.A.R.T. (a task force he created in conjunction with the Suffolk County Health Commissioner to raise the awareness of heart disease in the community), Co-Founder of Suffolk County Life Savers (support group for at risk patients and survivors of Sudden Cardiac Arrest), and Vice President of the New York Hellenic Medical Society.

    He is actively involved in the Heart Rhythm Society and has served on its Reimbursement and Regulatory Committee for six years. He is an international speaker and gives many lectures annually on Sudden Cardiac Arrest, Syncope, Congestive Heart Failure, and Medical Practice Building. In June 2010 he received Greek America Magazine's 40 most influential young Greek-Americans award. Dr. Carayannopoulos and his wife are active members in the Greek Orthodox community, and they enjoy living on Galveston Island.

  • Dr. Fatima Khan graduated from Riphah International University in Islamabad, Pakistan. She completed her internal medicine residency at Abington Hospital Jefferson Health in Pennsylvania and her general cardiology fellowship at the Western Connecticut health network at Danbury Hospital in Connecticut. She developed an interest in advanced heart failure and transplant cardiology in her early years of training.   • Dr. Kumfa was born in Cameroon, West Africa. He subsequently immigrated to Dallas TX, where he did his undergraduate studies. While at UT Dallas he studied Electrical Engineering and Premed. Thereafter, Dr. Kumfa came to UTMB for medical school. While in medical school he was in the Student Government Association and served as vice president of his class for all 4 years. He stayed at UTMB for Internal Medicine Residency. During residency he was recognized as Outstanding 2nd Year Internal Medicine Resident, and at graduation he was awarded the Don W. Powell Award for Excellence in Internal Medicine Residency. He continued his training at UTMB, where he completed General Cardiology Fellowship and Interventional cardiology. At the end of both fellowship trainings he was awarded the Hutching's Scholarship for Best Graduating Cardiology Fellow. Dr. Kumfa joined UTMB Faculty in 2016 as Assistant Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Cardiology, and Interventional Cardiology. He is passionate about coronary artery disease, peripheral vascular disease and structural heart disease.

  • Dr Khaled Chatila completed his medical school at the prestigious American University of Beirut in Lebanon. He then joined as a post-doctoral research fellow in cardiovascular disease at Baylor College of Medicine where he performed cutting edge basic science research studying the pathogenesis of myocardial infarction in animals. He then joined the Good Samaritan Hospital a Johns Hopkins affiliate in Baltimore where he completed his residency training in internal medicine.

    Dr Chatila then moved to Louisville Kentucky for his cardiology training and after completion of general cardiology he stayed on for an additional fellowship in advanced heart failure and transplant where he learned under the guidance of world renowned experts in the field about the care and management of patients with end stage heart failure, mechanical heart pumps (LVAD) and heart transplantation. He then joined UTMB division of cardiology. Along with him was his wife Dr Hania Kassem who also joined UTMB division of nephrology.

    Dr Chatila is extremely passionate about teaching medical students, residents and Cardiology Fellows. He is also interested in multiple research topics and currently working on different research projects. Dr Chatila has been selected for three years in a row 2016-2018 by Super Doctors® as one of Texas rising stars physicians. Dr Chatila has two kids a son and daughter with whom he spends most of his free time.

  • Dr. Khalife is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the UTMB Division of Cardiology. His educational background includes Heart Failure/Transplant Fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine/Texas Heart Institute and Cardiology Fellowship at UTMB. He is Board certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular disease, Heart Failure and transplantation, Echocardiography, and Nuclear Cardiology.   • Dr. Jneid is a UMTB Cardiologist who specializes in Clinical & Interventional Cardiology. He is the Chief of the Division of Cardiology at UTMB, where he also serves as the Medical Director of the Cardiovascular Care Line, & the John Sealy Distinguished Centennial Chair in Cardiology.

    He finished his Internal Medicine training at the Cleveland Clinic, his Clinical Cardiology training at the University of Louisville, & his Interventional / Structural Cardiology training at Massachusetts General Hospital of Harvard Medical School, & obtained triple board-certification in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Disease, & Interventional Cardiology.

    Prior to matriculation to UMTB, Dr. Jneid served as the Director of the Interventional Cardiology Fellowship Program at Baylor College of Medicine (BCM), the Director of Interventional Cardiology at the DeBakey VAMC, & the Director of Structural Heart Disease at Ben Taub Hospital (both BCM affiliates).

    His clinical interests include the areas of coronary artery disease, aortic valve disease, & cardiovascular prevention. He helped initiate the first TAVI program in the VA healthcare system in the US & spearheaded the cardiovascular team that initiated the first TAVI program for Harris Healthcare System IN Houston.
