Dr. Marilyn Marx is a board-certified general surgeon with a special interest in laparoscopic surgery, diseases of the breast, hernias and endoscopy. Dr. Marx received her B.S. from The University of Michigan and her M.D. from Rush Medical College. She completed her general surgical residency at The University of Texas Medical Branch, furthering her education by receiving a Master of Medical Science Degree from The University of Texas Medical Branch in 1987 and a Master of Business Administration from The University of Houston Clear-Lake in 2000. Upon completing her surgical residency, Dr. Marx was in private practice until 1997 when she joined the Department of Surgery at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston.

In additional to her clinical and educational responsibilities as a Professor of Surgery, she has served in several administrative appointments within the Faculty Group Practice over the past years including Chief Medical Director for Outpatient Services, Assistant Dean for Faculty Practice, and Senior Associate Dean for Faculty Practice, and Chief Physician Executive. Dr. Marx served as President of the Association of Women Surgeons from 2010-2011.

Dr. Mileski is Professor in the Department of Surgery and holder of the Chela and Jimmy Storm Distinguished Professorship in Surgical Research. He also serves as Chief of Trauma Services. Dr. Mileski is a skilled and caring surgeon and an exceptional teacher. He has distinguished himself nationally and internationally as an investigator in the area of trauma and critical care. He has published numerous peer-reviewed articles and book chapters, and has received significant funding from the NIH and fro private industry. Dr. Mileski has presented his work at professional meetings of national and international scope. He serves on the editorial board for Shock, Journal of Burn Care and Rehabilitation, and Surgical Infection Forum. Dr. Mileski earned his MD degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry, New Jersey in 1983.

Sarah L. Mims, MSN, FNP-C, RN, is a board-certified Nurse Practitioner in Pediatric Surgery in the Department of Surgery at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB). She also serves as a Registered Nurse First Assist where she assists in the operating room with pediatric surgeries.

Ms. Mims earned her Master of Science in Nursing-Family Nurse Practitioner in 2011 at the UTMB School of Nursing. Prior to her current position, she was a registered nurse in the pediatric inpatient unit and in labor and delivery.

Dr. Mobli is currently an associate professor with the Department of Surgery within the division of trauma and acute care surgery at University of Texas Medical Branch. He is double board certified in General Surgery and Surgical Critical Care. He has shown an interest in pediatric surgery and will be completing additional training in pediatric surgery here at UTMB and Driscoll Children’s hospital in Corpus Christi.

He was born and raised in Houston, Texas. He ultimately moved to Sugar Land for high school and graduated from Stephen. F. Austin. Attending the University of Texas at Austin, he graduated with high honors in Neurobiology and with distinction in Business Foundations. He completed medical school at McGovern Medical School in Houston. Dr. Mobli completed his General Surgery residency at UTMB (2016-2022), taking a year to complete a Surgical Critical Care fellowship with a focus in burns (2019-2020). He was recruited to partake in the expansion of the UTMB trauma program, involved in the rollout of the level 2 trauma center at Clear Lake.

He is an avid cyclist, involved in the open-source community and 3dprinting. He hopes to broaden the care provided to his patients by being at the forefront of the marriage between technology and surgery.

Dr. Moffett is an Assistant Professor in the UTMB Health Department of Surgery.

Dr. Jennifer Moffett grew up in southwestern Louisiana and graduated from Tulane University. She relocated to Houston, TX, and received her master’s degree from Baylor College of Medicine in Molecular Virology and Microbiology. After several years of doing research for a start-up biotech company and for Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans, she returned to Baylor College of Medicine to complete her medical school education. She then completed her residency in General Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine and Ben Taub General Hospital.

Dr. Moffett is Board Certified by the American Board of Surgery.

In her free time, Dr. Moffett enjoys crafting, traveling with her husband, and chasing after her ever-energetic son.

Dr. Amy Mrazek is an Assistant Professor of Surgery within the Department of Surgery- Trauma at The University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas. She grew up in South Texas and attended college at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. Dr. Mrazek relocated to Galveston to complete her post-graduate training at UTMB Health, which included medical school, general surgery residency, three-year research fellowship and Ph.D. in human pathophysiology and translational medicine. She began her surgical critical care fellowship training at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis and completed it as well as acute care burn surgery training at UTMB and Shriners Children’s Texas in Galveston. Dr. Mrazek is a member of the Association of Academic Surgeons, American Burn Association, Society of Critical Care Medicine, and American College of Surgeons. Her clinical interests include acute care surgery, management of trauma, acute burns, and critically ill patients. Her research interests include pancreatitis, gastrointestinal oncology, sepsis, and coagulopathy. In her spare time, she enjoys gardening, dancing two-step to ballroom, and collecting antiques.

Dr. Norman is an Assistant Professor in the UTMB Health Department of Surgery.

Dr. Norman grew up in Atlanta, GA and attended college and medical school at Emory University. He then relocated to Houston, TX for general surgery residency at Baylor College of Medicine where he completed an additional 2-year research fellowship during general surgery residency. After finishing residency, Dr. Norman moved back to Atlanta, GA where he completed a fellowship in Surgical Critical Care at Grady Memorial Hospital which is affiliated with the Emory University system.

Dr. Norman was then recruited to come back to Baylor College of Medicine and worked as an assistant professor at Ben Taub General Hospital. His research interests are coagulopathy, hemorrhagic shock, sepsis, and ARDS.

Dr. Norman is board certified by the American Board of Surgery in General Surgery and in Surgical Critical Care. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and is a member of the Harris County Medical Society and the Texas Medical Association.

Outside of the hospital, he enjoys spending time with his wife, Jen, and their three dogs.

Barbara L. Parish, MSN, RN, CCRN, NP-C, is a certified Nurse Practitioner (NP) in the Division of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery, Department of Surgery, at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB). She earned her Associates Degree in Nursing in 2001 at Galveston Community College and went on to earn both her Bachelor of Science in Nursing with honors (2011) and her Master of Science in Nursing-Nurse Practitioner with honors (2013) at UTMB.

Prior to her current position, Ms. Parish worked as a Nurse Clinician, Charge Nurse, Mentor, and Preceptor in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit as well as a Clinical Educator and Residency Facilitator in Surgical and Neuroscience Critical Care. She has remained active in UTMB committee responsibilities and is a member of several national professional medical societies, including the American Association of Critical Care Nurses and the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.

Ms. Parish has been honored with numerous awards for her excellence in nursing and has both attended and presented at several professional development workshops and programs throughout her career.

Dr. Sahai currently serves as a Professor and Division Chief of General Medicine at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston (UTMB). Prior to moving to UTMB in February 2020, he was on the faculty of the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center where he served as the Chief of the Section of Consultative Medicine in the Department of General Internal Medicine. and was part of the leadership team of the Perioperative Evaluation and Management (POEM) Center. His undergraduate education was at Tulane University, followed by medical school at the UTMB. He completed residency in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at the University of Texas Medical School at Houston.

He is board certified in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics. Dr. Sahai has completed a board certification in Medical Quality, as well as a graduate certificate in Health Care Management from Rice University School of Business.

Dr. Sahai is an advocate for patients being a partner in their healthcare and is recognized internationally as an expert in the perioperative care of the cancer patient.

Kathleen is a Physician Assistant in the UTMB Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery.

Kathleen is BOI (born on the island), born and raised in Galveston, Texas. She received her bachelor’s degree from UTMB in Health Care Administration. Realizing her true calling was inpatient care, she returned to school. After graduating from UTMB’s PA program in 2000, she joined UTMB’s Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery. Kathleen has over 20 years of experience caring for patients in the inpatient and outpatient settings. She spends much of her time in the operating room, where she specializes in endoscopic vein harvest and first assists for complex cardiac cases.
