Dr. Wondiful Colbert was born and raised in Virginia and completed her academic and medical training in the Virginia Commonwealth University-Medical College of Virginia educational system. Dr. Colbert’s training included being part of a special rural preceptorship program while in medical school that helped prepare students for medical careers in rural underserved communities.
After completion of her Family Medicine residency training at Blackstone Family Practice Residency Program in Blackstone, VA, she joined Central Virginia Health Services as a community health center provider in their rural Alberta, VA location. During her tenure with Central Virginia Health Services, Dr. Colbert also served as a Clinical Professor in the Department of Family Medicine at VCU-MCV and regularly taught medical students and residents. She was awarded the “Black History in the Making” award by the VCU Department of Family Medicine in 2008 for her clinical and teaching achievements.
She served the primary care needs of the Brunswick County, VA community for seven years before moving with her family to the Metro Atlanta area to join Emory University. She worked as a primary care provider at one of Emory’s outpatient offices for almost four years before coming to Texas to be closer to her husband’s family and to return to the type of rural family practice she enjoys. Dr. Colbert practices at the Angleton Family Medicine clinic and is excited about serving the needs of that community.
She and her husband reside in Friendswood. They have three young children and enjoy outdoor activities.
