About Me

Dr. Boyars received his medical degree from Boston University School of Medicine in 1972. He received his postgraduate training in internal medicine and pulmonary medicine at Georgetown University.

Dr. Boyars has been on the UTMB faculty, Pulmonary Division since 1982. His main interests are related to clinical pulmonary medicine and teaching. He has clinical interests in tuberculosis, obstructive lung disease, and interstitial lung disease. He has an active clinical research interest in obstructive lung diseases. He also collaborates with the Allergy Division investigating the pathophysiology of asthma.

Dr. Boyars has received numerous teaching awards, including Outstanding Faculty Member (Mu Delta, 1989), Golden Apple Award (1992 and 1995), and the Internal Medicine Faculty-Alumni Society Teaching Award (1993).

Dr. Boyars is a member of the American Thoracic Society and the American College of Chest Physicians.
