Dr. Lisa Falls is a native of Houston, Texas. She completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Texas in Austin. She is a graduate of Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tennessee, where she received her medical degree. After deciding on a career path in psychiatry, she completed her general psychiatry residency at Alton Ochsner Foundation Hospital in New Orleans, LA. The final step in her formal training included a Child Psychiatry Fellowship at UTMB Galveston, where she also served as Chief Resident during the last year of her training.
Dr. Falls has long had a passion to serve the underserved. So after residency, she worked for Burke Center MHMR of East Texas for the next 8 years. She saw both children and adults with a wide range of psychiatric disorders. Her time in East Texas was followed by another clinical position at Waco Family Health Center. Again, there was a great need in the Waco area. She has been active in both the East Texas and Waco communities by giving lectures to the community to educate about and decrease the stigma of mental health. She also did some teaching of Family Medicine residents and staff. This was the beginning of her interest in Integrative Behavioral Health. She further developed this interest after returning to the Houston/Galveston area. She enjoys working collaboratively with UTMB’s Family medicine department. She has also become very involved with telemedicine, thereby further improving access to care.
Dr. Falls is an active member of American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and the Texas Society of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. She has previously served on AACAP’s Child Abuse and Neglect Committee. She currently serves on UTMB’s Psychiatry/Behavioral Science QM committee.
