Dr. McKinnon joined the University of Texas Medical Branch in 2019, and is Associate Professor and Vice Chair, Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. Dr. McKinnon is the holder of the J.M. Robinson Distinguished Professorship.

Dr. McKinnon graduated from Boston University School of Medicine and following a surgical internship at National Naval Medical Center, Bethesda, MD, spent five years as a U.S. Naval Flight Surgeon. He completed his Otolaryngology training at Naval Medical Center, Portsmouth, VA, and his Neurotology fellowship at the University of Virginia. He is Board Certified in Neurotology, received his M.B.A. from Johns Hopkins University, and his M.P.H. (Biostatistics concentration) from the University of Memphis.

Dr. McKinnon was on the teaching faculty of the National Naval Medical Center/Walter Reed Army Medical Center Combined Otolaryngology Residency, and Staff Otolaryngologist to both the White House Medical Unit and the DiLorenzo Tricare Health Clinic. Following his active duty service, he was Associate Professor, Otology/Neurotology at Georgia Regents University before joining the Shea Ear Clinic. While with the Shea Ear Clinic, Dr. McKinnon was Clinical Associate Professor, Otology/Neurotology, Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, University of Tennessee Health Sciences Center, and later concurrently Associate Professor and Vice-Chair Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, Drexel Univeristy College of Medicine, as well as Associate Professor, Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, Pennsylvania College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Dr. McKinnon is a Fellow of the Triological Society, and the American Neurotology Society, Active Member of the American Otological Society, as well as being active in many other organizations. His primary research interests are the management of cochlear implant programs, and the development of novel electromagnetic cochlear arrays.

Dr. Makishima received her Medical Degree (1992) and PhD in Philosophy (1998) from Kyushu University School of Medicine, Fukuoka, Japan. She completed her Residency and Clinical Fellowship at the Department Otorhinolaryngology at Kyushu University Medical Hospital in 1994, as well as her Clinical Fellowship in 1998. She is Board Certified by The Otorhinolaryngological Society of Japan. She joined UTMB in 2005.

Dr. Hughes has over 30 years of experience in pediatric otolaryngology and takes care of all pediatric Ear, Nose, and Throat associated disorders. He performed his residency at Georgetown University Medical Center and fellowships at Johns Hopkins Hospital and at Children's Memorial Hospital, Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. Dr. Hughes has also served the Department of Dense (DOD) for more than 20 years, including the United States Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force and NASA as a Flight Surgeon.

Judy Eid was raised in Galveston County but born in Lebanon. She was a Magna Cum Laude graduate from the University of Houston with a Bachelor of Science in Human Nutrition and Foods. She received her Master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies from the University of Texas Medical Branch where she was a student ambassador. Ms. Eid is certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) and is licensed by the Texas Medical Board. She sees pediatric patients with a variety of ENT complaints and completes in-office procedures. In her free time, she enjoys trying out new restaurants, traveling, binge watching TV shows, and spending time with her loved ones and dog.

Taylor Mitchell is a Galveston native (BOI) and a graduate of Ball High School. She was a Cum Laude graduate from the University of St Thomas in Houston, Texas with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a minor in Psychology. She received her Master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies from the University of Texas Medical Branch where she was a member of the Ph Alpha Honor Society. Ms. Mitchell is certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) and is licensed by the Texas Medical Board. She was awarded the 2022 Rookie of the Year of the Advanced Practice Providers. She sees both adult and pediatric patients with a variety of general ENT complaints and completes in-office procedures. In her free time, she enjoys cooking, fine dining, traveling and spending time with her friends and family.

Kelly grew up in Louisiana and graduated magna cum laude from LSU with degrees in Kinesiology and Biological Sciences. She then went on to graduate with a Master's Degree from University of Texas Medical Branch in Physician Assistant studies as a Pi Alpha Honor Society member where she was also the recipient of the William and Mark K. McGanity Award as well as the UTMB President's Cabinet Award. She started working at UTMB Ear, Nose, and Throat specialists in 2018 where she sees a wide variety of general ENT complaints and completes in-office procedures. During her free time, she is an avid runner, enjoys saltwater fishing, and playing with her Sheltie, Paisley.

Dr. Hajiyev graduated from the Istanbul University in Turkiye and completed a fellowship in pediatric otolaryngology at Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston, one of the nation’s top pediatric specialty hospitals. He specializes in providing the newest medical and surgical treatment for the full spectrum of pediatric ENT disorders, including hearing loss and ear infections, cochlear implants, and BAHAs, airway and breathing issues, swallowing dysfunction, allergies, sinusitis, and sleep apnea. During his free time, Dr. Hajiyev enjoys to garden, riding a bike, and spending time with his three young children.
