  • Dr. Hagedorn joined the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Rehabilitation in 2017 as an Assistant Professor in Trauma Surgery, Medical Director of Orthopaedic Trauma, and Chief of Orthopaedic Trauma Surgery. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a Doctor of Medicine from the West Virginia University School of Medicine, Morgantown, where he also completed an internship and residency training in orthopaedic surgery. Dr. Hagedorn received further training in orthopaedic trauma during a fellowship in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at The University of Texas Health Science Center, Houston and an international fellowship in the Department of Trauma, University Hospital, Zurich, Switzerland.

    He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, A O Trauma, American Orthopaedic Association, Orthopaedic Trauma Association, Texas Orthopaedic Association, and Mid-America Orthopaedic Association.

    Dr. Hagedorn is certified as a Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, and Advanced Trauma Life Support instructor by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and is licensed to practice medicine in Texas.

  • Dr. Thabet graduated at the top of his class from Benha University School of Medicine in Egypt, where he earned his medical degree and began his orthopedic journey with an internship and orthopedic residency. Driven by a passion for advancements and innovation in orthopedic surgery, he pursued extensive training both in the U.S. and internationally.

    Dr. Thabet’s U.S. training began in Baltimore, where he mastered advanced techniques in limb lengthening, deformity correction, and the use of computer-assisted hexapod circular external fixators. He further specialized in pediatric orthopedics during training at A.I. Dupont Hospital for Children, Wilmington, Delaware and New Orleans Children’s Hospital, New Orleans, Louisiana, gaining expertise in managing complex pediatric conditions. Dr. Thabet continued his orthopedic education at the University of New Mexico, where he focused on treating acute orthopedic injuries, including open fractures, periarticular fractures, pelvis and acetabulum fractures, as well as complex cases involving nonunion, malunion, bone defects, and bone infections.

    Internationally, Dr. Thabet enhanced his skills in Italy and Switzerland. In Lecco, Italy, he trained under Professor M.A. Catagni, focusing on advanced applications of circular external fixators for various orthopedic conditions, including challenging cases of bone reconstruction. In Switzerland, through an AO Fellowship, he gained valuable insights into hip preservation surgery.

    Dr. Thabet began his orthopedic career at Texas Tech University in El Paso, Texas, where he worked at both University Medical Center of El Paso (UMC) and El Paso Children’s Hospital (EPCH). His work had a significant impact on thousands of families in the community. Motivated by opportunities for growth and career advancement, he joined the Department of Orthopedic Surgery and Rehabilitation at UTMB, where he is excited to continue making a positive difference for patients and their families.
