He then obtained his medical degree from Duke University, Durham, NC in 1966. He trained in internal medicine at New York Hospital-Cornell, New York, NY and in allergy-immunology at the National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, MD and Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, MD. Dr. Grant joined the faculty of UTMB in 1973 and rose to Professor in the departments of medicine and microbiology/immunology.
