Dr. Abbey Berenson is a Professor in the department of Obstetrics and Gynecology who specializes in Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology and Women's Health Care.   She is also the Director of the UTMB Center for Interdisciplinary Research in Women's Health Care.  Dr. Berenson received her medical degree and completed her residency at the Baylor College of Medicine and received a Ph.D. from the University of Texas Medical Branch.   Dr. Berenson is board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology.  Her clinical interest include Women's Health Care research, HPV vaccines and vaccination, and contraception.

Dr. Berenson's research interests involve the study of reproductive-aged women's health. Her interest include: Comparative effectiveness studies among diverse populations of young women; Contraception practices, methods, and effects (clinical); and Interventions directed at cervical cancer prevention (clinical).  She is also studying the quadrivalent human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine that requires three injections spaced 1 month and 6 months after the first vaccine, and is intended for use by adolescents and adults 9-26 years of age.

Tammie Michael completed her Associates Degree in Nursing at Galveston College in Galveston, Texas in 2005 on the National Dean's List. She then completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at the University of Texas Arlington and Master of Science in Nursing at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas. Upon completion of her MSN, Tammie joined UTMB as a Nephrology Nurse Clinician and later transitioned to Geriatrics as an Adult- Geriatric Nurse practitioner heading the House Call Program. She is also a specialty certified Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse. Tammie is currently a BSN Clinical Instructor at the University of Texas Medical Branch School of Nursing. She is also an active member of organizations such as the Galveston Coalition of Advanced Practice Nurses, Gerontological Advanced Practice Nurses Association, American Association of Nurse Practitioners, Texas Nurse Practitioners Association, and the Texas Nurse Practitioners Political Action Committee.

Prior to acquiring her Nurse Practitioner's license in 2015, Adetutu worked as an RN in the TDCJ Women's Unit for nine years. In her role as Nurse Practitioner, she will be working primarily on a grant, "Identifying Therapeutic Targets of Accelerated Sarcopenia".

Dr. Justin Serrette joined UTMB Pediatric Associates in 2014.  Dr. Serrette sees patients at both the Texas City Pediatric Clinic and the Victory Lakes Urgent Care Clinic where he serves as the Medical Director.

Born and raised in South Louisiana, Dr. Serrette attended Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge prior to completing medical school at UTMB in 2009.  He remained at UTMB in Galveston for his pediatric internship and residency.  Dr. Serrette is board-certified in Pediatrics by the American Board of Pediatrics.

Dr. Serrette enjoys spending his free time with his wife and daughters.  You can also find him running along the seawall in Galveston most days.

Dr. Yang joined UTMB in 2019 and he is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics in Pediatric Urgent Care. Dr. Yang completed his M.D. and pediatric surgery fellowship in 1997 through the Combined Program, and subsequently completed his PhD training in Molecular Oncology in 2001 from China Medical University.

Dr. Yang worked in UT M. D. Anderson Cancer Center, Houston Texas from 2001 to 2010. Dr. Yang completed pediatric residency in New York Medical College (Richmond) Pediatric Residency Program from 2010 to 2013, where he served as the Chief Resident in the last year of residency. Dr. Yang worked as a pediatric Board-certified physician at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa Texas from 2014 to 2019 and at Texas Children's Hospital Pediatric Urgent Care from 2017-2019.

Jennifer Young is a Texas native, completing her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at the University of Texas Health Science Center on the Dean's Honor List and Master of Science in Nursing at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas. In 2014, she was nominated for Who's Who among Students in American Universities and Colleges. Jennifer is an Adult and Geriatric Nurse practitioner also certified in Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine Team. She is an active member of the Galveston Coalition of Advanced Practice Nurses and the Geriatric Advance Practice Nurses Association.

Jessica Den Herder is a Texas native, completing her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Nursing in 2013. She then went on to complete her Master of Science in Nursing at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas. Jessica is an Adult and Geriatric Nurse practitioner and works exclusively as a provider for the UTMB Geriatrics House Call Program. She is an active member of the Galveston Coalition of Advanced Practice Nurses and the American Association of Nurse Practitioners.

Dr. Peter Beshara joined UTMB Health Primary Care Clinic in Texas City July 2015. He is board certified in Family Medicine by the American Board of Family Physicians and in Obesity Medicine by American Board of Obesity medicine. Dr. Beshara also earned his Master of Health Administration from LSUS. He grew up in Egypt where he received his Doctor of Medicine with honors from Ain Shams University Medical School and Master of Science in Ophthalmology Medicine. Dr. Beshara moved to the States and completed his residency training in Family Medicine at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. He is also Co Medical Director of the UTMB Health Primary and Specialty Care Clinic in Texas City.

Dr. Beshara's interests include Prevention Medicine, Obesity medicine, Integrative medicine, and Adult and Geriatric medicine. He is very dedicated to patient education and empowerment and looks forward to developing life-long relationships with his patients.

Dr. Sonia Bhatt attended Texas Tech Health Sciences Center School of Medicine and UTMB for her residency in internal medicine. She is professionally interested in the management of diabetes, hypertension and high cholesterol, not just with medication but by promoting positive and healthy lifestyle changes. Dr. Bhatt also emphasizes the importance of annual wellness screenings and disease prevention.

Dr. Thomas Blackwell received his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch, and completed his residency at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center.  Dr. Blackwell is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Emergency Medicine.  His special interests are student and residency education.

Dr. Blackwell is the Associate Dean for Graduate Medical Education and Professor of General Internal Medicine at the University of Texas Medical Branch.  In addition to a busy private practice, he has major administrative and teaching duties at UTMB.  As the Associate Dean for Graduate Medical Education, he has administrative oversight of 50+ residencies and approximately 590 residents / fellows in training.  Previously, he was the Director for the Division of General Internal Medicine and the Medical Director for the Harborside Medical Group.  Also, he was the Program Director for the Internal Medicine Residency training program for 19 years.

At a national level, Dr. Blackwell has been selected for a 6-year appointment as a member of the ACGME Accreditation Appeals Panel for Internal Medicine.  He is the past chair of the Internal Medicine Residency Review Committee, which regulates all training in Internal Medicine and its subspecialties.  He was a member of the Board of Directors of the American Board of Internal Medicine from 2004 - 2008.
