Amber Khan grew up and lived in three different countries and moved a lot in pursuit of improving quality of life and chasing her aspirations. From getting her bachelor's in North Carolina, going to PA school in Virginia, she fell in love with Texas and moved here.

She continuously enjoys family practice and has been practicing since 2012. She likes getting to know her patients and their loved ones, and building long lasting relationships. She has a lot of exposure to preventative care and emphasizes that to her patients the most.

A decorated veteran that served in the Medical Corps in Iraq, Dr. Neely-Shelmire is a board-certified pediatrician with a passion for partnering with parents to raise healthy children through wellness goals, good nutrition, physical activity, healthy sleep habits, and an approach that balances the physical, emotional and developmental aspects of being a child. A parent herself with two adult sons and a host of nieces and nephews, she enjoys spending her free time running, kayaking and with family. She holds professional memberships with the Texas Medical Association, the Texas Pediatric Society, the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Catholic Medical Association. Dr. Mohammad Fouad Azim is a Board-Certified Pediatrician (2010). He completed his Pediatrics Residency at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston where he was also a student during his 4th year of Medical School.

He adores children and considers himself both fortunate and blessed to take care of the youngest Texans. A parent himself, he understands the importance of addressing parental concerns about all aspects of their child's health.

Dr. Azim comes from a family of over thirty physicians and in his free time he enjoys photography and writing. He is a published author of a well-received coming of age novel for teens and young adults.

Dr. Jani Lee grew up mostly in Atlanta, Georgia. After graduating with a Biochemistry degree from New York University, she completed her medical school education at Stony Brook University School of Medicine. Dr. Lee graduated from General Surgery Residency training from Mount Sinai West-Morningside Hospitals, and graduated from Vascular Surgery Fellowship training from The Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City.

Dr. Lee has been well trained in all open and endovascular aspects of Vascular Surgery including complex aortic repair, peripheral artery disease, carotid disease, mesenteric disease, dialysis access, and venous disease. She is fluent in Korean and familiar with Spanish.

Erika Schulze was born and raised in the Midwest in Illinois 30 minutes outside of St. Louis, MO. She completed her academic training at Goldfarb School of Nursing in St. Louis, MO. Her experience spans 16 years, which included working at Barnes Hospital as staff nurse on general medicine floor for 8 years; Pulmonary and Critical Care research at Washington University in St. Louis, MO. In 2003, Erika was accepted into graduate school at Goldfarb School of Nursing and completed Master of Science degree in Nursing with focus as an Adult Nurse Practitioner. This program was two and half years of additional medical assessment and decision training including diagnostic testing. Since completing Graduate School, she has worked in the primary care setting. She moved to Texas and started working at UTMB in January 2013.

During her time off, she enjoys her home, gardening, and time with her family and friends. She is passionate about animal welfare charities and animal fostering programs. Erika is also very passionate about the mental health of the community. She chairs a weekly support group, Nar Anon, for family and friends of those suffering from addiction.

Dr. Amber Hairfield joined UTMB Pediatrics as faculty in 2011. She is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics and board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics. Dr. Hairfield received her doctorate from the University of North Texas Health Science Center in Fort Worth, Texas. She also completed her residency in Pediatrics at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, TX.

Dr. Hairfield has a special interest in medical education and is currently serving as the Pediatric Residency Program Director at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) in Galveston.

In addition to serving in various medical education committees, Dr. Hairfield also serves in a few UTMB Quality Improvement committees for academic pediatric clinics

Tiffany Perez, DO is originally from Houston, Texas. She received her bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry from Baylor University in Waco, Texas. Following this, she attended medical school at Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine in Auburn, Alabama. She completed residency at Oklahoma State University/OMECO Teaching Health Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Dr. Perez puts the needs of her patients at the forefront of everything she does and continually strives to deliver the best levels of patient care at all times. She pursued family medicine because she enjoys taking care of patients of all ages and backgrounds. Her clinical interests include minor procedures, women's health, and preventive medicine.

Dr. Perez’s hobbies include spending time with family, playing with her dog, and traveling. She is excited to join UTMB and hopes to make a positive impact in the community.

Dr. Kyralessa B. Ramirez joined the UTMB League City Pediatric and Adult Primary Care clinic in January 2012.  Prior to joining UTMB, she worked for 2 years in South Houston at a pediatric private practice.

Dr. Ramirez received her medical degree, Magna Cum Laude, from Instituto Tecnologico de Santo Domingo.  She attended the University of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston where she completed her pediatric residency in 2009.

Dr. Ramirez's clinical interests include the prevention and treatment of common pediatrics illnesses, specifically ear infections. She is interested in the treatment of eczema as well as other common skin disorders, preventive pediatrics and anticipatory guidance.  She enjoys helping new parents with their newborn babies, counseling them about breastfeeding and infant safety. Dr. Ramirez is fluent in English and Spanish.  She is married to Dr. Rafael A. Fonseca, a faculty member in the Department of Neonatology at UTMB, Galveston.  She enjoys taking care of a diverse population of patients.

Dr. Crystal Sierra joined UTMB Health in November 2010.  After completing her undergraduate studies at The University of Texas - Pan American in Edinburg, Texas, Dr. Sierra earned her medical degree from The University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston in 2006. In 2009, she completed her Residency in Pediatrics at UTMB. Prior to working for UTMB, Dr. Sierra worked as a pediatrician in Clear Lake.

Dr. Sierra is board certified by The American Board of Pediatrics. She is also certified in Basic Life Support and Pediatric Advanced Life Support. She has her Texas medical license, and is a member of The American Academy of Pediatrics.

Dr. Sierra is married to Dr. James T. Sierra, a dentist in Friendswood, and they have two beautiful daughters, Gabriella and Francesca.  Dr. Sierra is fluent in Spanish and also enjoys reading and traveling with her family in her spare time.  She has enjoyed living in the area, and is excited to be giving back to the community!

Dr. Maria San Andrés received her B.S. in Biomedical Science at Texas A&M University and her M.D. from Texas A&M Health Science Center College of Medicine in College Station, TX. She completed her Pediatric residency at UTMB. After residency, she began working at UTMB in the General Pediatrics Clinic and at the St. John's Hospital Newborn Nursery. She currently works in the outpatient General Pediatric Clinic and enjoys working with medical students and residents.
