She worked with post op surgical patients as a Registered Nurse. Once becoming a Family Nurse Practitioner in 2016 she started working with The Center for Weight Management at UTMB, she continues to work with weight management with The Department of Surgery.

  • Dr. Roger Throndson was born and raised in Iowa.  He served in the United States Army before completing his undergraduate degree in Biology at the University of Northern Iowa. From there, he received his doctorate in dentistry at the University of Iowa and then served as a Dental Officer in Ft. Campbell, Kentucky.  Dr. Throndson would go on to complete a residency in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at Walter Reed Army Hospital in Washington, D.C. Dr. Throndson's commitment to service and training have allowed him to practice in the Republic of Panama, Ft Hood, TX, Saudi, Arabia, and Honolulu, HI.

    In 1997, Dr. Throndson moved to Dallas, Texas to assume an Assistant Professor position in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Baylor College of Dentistry (part of the Texas A&M University System). It was in 2000 when Dr. Throndson moved to Galveston, TX to join the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) as an Assistant Professor in the Oral and Maxillofacial Division of the Department of Surgery. Within his first 2 years, he became Program Director of the OMFS residency training program and also advanced to Associate Professor within the division.  He was awarded tenure with UTMB in 2007, and was named Chief of the Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in 2009 (a post he holds to this day). He was named Holder of the Carl E. Schow Chair in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in 2010. In 2014, Dr. Throndson and Dr. Glenn received a Grant from The President's Cabinet to establish a dental clinic at St. Vincent's Clinic in Galveston. Dr. Throndson volunteers at that clinic one Saturday a month providing oral surgery services.

    Dr. Throndson's research interests include the physiology of bone grafting and healing, dental and maxillofacial implantsfor reconstruction of the dentition and facial complex, and alloplastic grafting materials. He has presented and attended numerous lectures and seminars nationally and internationally, and he is highly regarded by his colleagues. Dr. Throndson and his lovely wife, Darla, enjoy island life in Galveston as well as spending time with their children and grandchildren as much as possible.

    Christina Guarin grew up in San Antonio, TX and always knew she wanted to be in healthcare. In high school she joined the Health Occupations Students of America and became a Certified Nursing Assistant at the age of 16. She worked in a Skilled Nursing facility until after graduation when she enlisted in the US Navy. After bootcamp she was attached to a Marine Corps Unit and did 2 tours in Iraq as a MedEvac corpsman. After completing her enlistment, she challenged the state board and was approved to take the NCLEX for LVN. Christina then worked as an LVN in an outpatient surgery center while taking pre-requisites to get into nursing school. After graduating with her BSN, she worked one year in a Critical Care Stepdown Unit before transferring to the Intensive Care Unit where she would stay until completing her master's degree and becoming an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner.

  • Dr. Carlos Javier Jimenez was born in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico. He received his medical training at Ponce School of Medicine in Ponce, Puerto Rico. He went on to complete general surgery residency at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Youngstown, Ohio. He then completed fellowships in Burns and Reconstructive Surgery and Surgical Critical Care Fellowship at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) and Shriners Hospitals for Children in Galveston, Texas. Since finishing his fellowship, he has participated in both burn and trauma critical care and is actively involved with the acute care general surgery program at UTMB. As Associate Professor, he is an active core faculty to the Level 1 Trauma Center at UTMB. At the Shriners Hospitals for Children in Galveston, Dr. Jimenez is actively involved in clinical research for the improvement of acute burn care and the rehabilitation of burn patients. He serves as Chairman of the Infectious Disease Committee at Shriners Hospitals for Children in Galveston, Texas.

    As part of the surgical critical care fellowship program, he has spent a great part of his career lecturing and training critical care surgeons. Today, these surgeons are directing and staffing intensive care and burn units in other hospitals nationally and internationally in places such as Ohio, Toronto, Monterey, Mexico, Tamil Nadu, S. India, London, and Bohn, Germany. Dr. Jimenez also received the golden scalpel award by the residents of the surgical program for his support and participation in training general surgery residents and critical care fellows. He has also been given the Distinguished Teacher of the Year honor by the American Osler Society.

    Dr. Jimenez's research specializes in Acute Burn Care and Trauma. He has published articles in The American College of Surgeons Journal, book chapters in “Total Burn Care”, 4th Ed., and in Burn Awareness videos in collaboration with Shriners Hospitals for Children and the Houston Firefighters Burned Children's Fund. He has been honored as a guest speaker at many conferences locally, nationally, and internationally. Looking at the future, Dr. Jimenez sees himself at the cutting edge of technology by implementing privately funded clinical trials of different products for the care of burn injuries.

    Dr. Jimenez is also board certified in both general and critical care surgery. He is a member of the American College of Surgeons, American Burn Association, and many other medical professional societies. Most of his personal achievements are credited to his family who have sacrificed so much to support his education and success.
