  • Dr. Islam returns to UTMB Health after serving is an Associate Professor and Research Director for the Department of Family and Community Medicine at Texas Tech University in Odessa. Dr. Islam received his Doctorate of Medicine from University of Dhaka in Bangladesh. He then earned a Master's of Science degree in epidemiology from the University of Texas at Houston. Dr. Islam went on to pursue his medical training with a family medicine residency at State University of New York Health Sciences Center in Brooklyn.

    Prior to his position at Texas Tech, Dr. Islam worked as a faculty member in UTMB Health's Department of Family Medicine for 10 years.   • Dr. Thomas Blackwell received his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch, and completed his residency at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center.  Dr. Blackwell is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Emergency Medicine.  His special interests are student and residency education.

    Dr. Blackwell is the Associate Dean for Graduate Medical Education and Professor of General Internal Medicine at the University of Texas Medical Branch.  In addition to a busy private practice, he has major administrative and teaching duties at UTMB.  As the Associate Dean for Graduate Medical Education, he has administrative oversight of 50+ residencies and approximately 590 residents / fellows in training.  Previously, he was the Director for the Division of General Internal Medicine and the Medical Director for the Harborside Medical Group.  Also, he was the Program Director for the Internal Medicine Residency training program for 19 years.

She has traveled to Trinidad to volunteer her services with the Ministry of Health to assist with public health matters. She serves as international correspondent for the Sundar Charitable Trust whose primary goal is to bring math and reading supplies to poor villages in Tamil Nadu, India. Every two years, Dr. Dhamotharan and her husband visit this Trust and the local children to determine what steps need to be made to increase literacy rates.

  • Dr. James Yao Doe was born and raised in Ghana. He attended University of Science and Technology in Ghana where he completed his medical training. Upon completion, he worked as a general medical practitioner at Koforidua Regional Hospital and then Battor Catholic Hospital (both in Ghana), before relocating to the United States.

    He was a resident in the Department of Family Medicine at University of Oklahoma in Tulsa.
