  • Dr. Thomas D. Kimbrough was born in Dallas, Texas. He earned his undergraduate degree from The University of Texas in Austin and his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) in Galveston where he continued his Residency in General Surgery. He also completed fellowships in Surgical Nutrition and Metabolism at Harvard Medical School in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

    Dr. Kimbrough is currently Professor and the Le Roy Hillyer, MD Endowed Chair in the Department of Surgery and is presently Associate Chief Medical Officer for Health System and Medical Director of General Surgery Clinics at UTMB. He is an active member of various committees, which include the Singleton Surgical Society, Galveston County Medical Society, the American College of Surgeons, and the Texas Medical Association. His membership in scientific societies includes the Texas Surgical Society, Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and the Texas Medical Association.

    Dr. Kimbrough currently instructs Practice of Medicine 2-year medical students, serves as Facilitator, and is a committee member of the POM2 Course and Great Syndromes. His special interests include hernia repair, critical surgical illness and nutrition.
