  • Dr. Islam returns to UTMB Health after serving is an Associate Professor and Research Director for the Department of Family and Community Medicine at Texas Tech University in Odessa. Dr. Islam received his Doctorate of Medicine from University of Dhaka in Bangladesh. He then earned a Master's of Science degree in epidemiology from the University of Texas at Houston. Dr. Islam went on to pursue his medical training with a family medicine residency at State University of New York Health Sciences Center in Brooklyn.

    Prior to his position at Texas Tech, Dr. Islam worked as a faculty member in UTMB Health's Department of Family Medicine for 10 years. During his career, Dr. Islam has been involved in over twenty-five clinical research projects and published 13 articles. In addition, Dr. Islam has over 25 state, national, and international poster presentations to his credit. Dr Islam is board certified in Family Medicine. He is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, Texas Academy of Family Physicians, and Society of Teachers of Family Medicine.

    Dr. Islam's clinical interests are in serving the Asian and Hispanic populations with an emphasis on treating those with diabetes, cardiovascular disease and obesity. Dr. Islam is fluent in Spanish, Urdu, Hindi and Bengali.
