Dr. Michael Stone received his medical degree (M.D.) and completed his Internal Medicine internship at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston, TX, and completed his General Psychiatry Residency at Portsmouth Naval Hospital in Portsmouth, VA.
Dr. Stone served as a Senior Medical Officer in the Navy and later served as Head of the Mental Health Department Naval Hospital at Camp Lejeune. He went into private practice and served as Staff Psychiatrist in Tomball before joining UTMB as a psychiatrist in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. He currently serves as the Director of Inpatient Services for UTMB at St. Joseph Medical Center in Houston.
His medical interests include General Adult Inpatient Psychiatry, Schizophrenia, Bipolar Disorder, and Psychopharmacology.
Institutionally he is a member of the Academy of Master Clinicians, the Medical Staff Executive Committee, and serves as Chair of the Physicians Health and Rehabilitation Committee. Within the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences he serves on the Resident Clinical Competency Committee, the Residency Training Committee, and the Undergraduate Education Committee.
Dr. Stone serves on the Editorial Board of “Innovation in Clinical Neuroscience” and is an Expert Reviewer for the Texas Medical Board.
As an educator in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, he is a Facilitator for the Psych & Cinema medical student elective, lecturer for the Psychotherapy Curriculum for Residents, Case Developer and Facilitator for the 3rd year Psychiatry medical students Team Based Learning Curriculum, and Clinical Preceptor for 2nd and 4th year medical students, and supervises medical students and residents for Inpatient Psychiatry.
