Dr. Leah E. Low is a Texas native and completed all of her academic and medical training in the University of Texas educational system.  Her educational background includes a Bachelor’s degree in both Chemistry and Psychology from The University of Texas at Austin and an M.D. degree and internship/residency from The University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas. During her internship and residency in Internal Medicine at The University of Texas Medical Branch, she was nominated for Outstanding Resident Performance in the TDCJ and awarded Outstanding Intern Performance in Clinic. She was also elected and served as both Secretary and President of the House Officers Association.

Dr. Low joined the UTMB faculty as Assistant Professor of General Internal Medicine. Currently, she is working as a Hospitalist and attends on the wards at Jennie Sealy hospital. She was appointed Medical Director of several of the inpatient units at John Sealy Hospital which allows her to work closely with the nursing staff and care management to focus on patient safety, satisfaction, and implement necessary changes. She is a member of the Hospital Leadership Council, the Utilization Review Committee, and is the divisional representative for Quality Improvement. She gained training in the field of health care quality by attending the UTMB Clinical Safety and Effectiveness course. Some of her current quality improvement projects include: improving length of stay on the Internal Medicine ward services, improving patient satisfaction through distribution of team face sheets, and reducing medication dosing error in patients with impaired renal function.

Additionally, Dr. Low enjoys working very closely with the medical school and residency program helping to educate many of our future doctors and specialists. She serves as one of the Associate Program Directors of the Internal Medicine Residency Program, a position she was honored to accept. She also teaches the medical students on the wards and periodically in their first year Practice of Medicine Course.
