I have done many things in my long career, as a Nurse, I worked in surgery, which I enjoyed immensely. I specialized in Cardiac Surgery in the Houston Medical Center, but I wanted more patient contact, so I went back to school for more education and expertise in family care.
As a new Nurse Practitioner, I worked with a Primary Care doctor in Alvin for 3 yrs. It was a solo practice, so I was exposed to a wide verity of patient problems. This gave me a wonderful experience base. Over the years I have found that I enjoy the older adult population the most. They have such interesting life experiences that impact the way they approach their own healthcare. When I first came to UTMB I worked in the Surgical Department and was exposed to the Oncology aspect of healthcare. This was a huge learning experience! I really enjoyed the challenge and working with the patient population.
I guess the recurrent theme of my career is that I have always enjoyed a challenge. I enjoy learning new things and working toward the best outcome for everyone. I come from a long line or healthcare professionals. When my mother retired at age 67 from nursing, she became a published poet and book writer. She found all kinds of new challenges to enjoy. This taught me that every phase of life is a challenge to be relished and enjoyed.
My hobbies are quilting, baking, travel and reading a good book.
