  • Dr. Edythe Harvey was born in Galveston and raised in Amarillo, Texas.  She attended undergraduate school at the University of Texas in Austin and then went to Texas Tech Health Science Center where she completed her medical degree.  She went on to do her internship and residency at St. Luke's Roosevelt Hospital Center in New York City before moving to Tulsa, Oklahoma where she joined the faculty at the University of Oklahoma.  Before leaving Tulsa, Dr. Harvey was the Clinical Director at Laureate Psychiatric Clinic and Hospital.

    Prior to joining the faculty at UTMB, Dr. Harvey was with Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas.  While at Baylor she was the Medical Director of the Ben Taub General Hospital Psychiatric Emergency Center before joining the staff at the Menninger Clinic where she was the Medical Director of the Hope Program as well as the Medical Director of Addiction Services.

    Dr. Harvey is currently an Associate Professor of Psychiatry at UTMB.  She is Board certified in General Psychiatry as well as Addiction Psychiatry.  She is currently the Psychiatric Consultant at the Student Health Counseling Service and is the Medical Director of the Gulf Coast Ambulatory Detox Program.  Dr. Harvey is also a certified HIMS psychiatrist working with the UTMB Aerospace group and the Federal Aviation Administration to evaluate pilots for airway safety. She also serves as a Volunteer Faculty Provider at St. Vincent's Clinic.

    Dr. Harvey has been involved in numerous professional organizations and has served as President of Southern Psychiatric Association and the Houston Psychiatric Society.  She has served on numerous committees; local, regional and national.  Her primary interests include: addictions and detoxification, power issues, teaching and student related problems.
