About Me
Dr. Fredericus (Erik) Van Kuijk, M.D., Ph.D., to the Ophthalmology Department where he will be specializing in medical retina and retinal degeneration. Dr. Van Kuijk joins us from the University of Minnesota where he served as professor and the Chair of the Department of Ophthalmology & Visual Neurosciences. With a remarkable academic and professional career spanning over three decades, Dr. Van Kuijk's expertise includes medical retina, inherited retinal degenerations, and general ophthalmology care. He earned his M.D. and Ph.D. from the University of Nijmegen, in the Netherlands, and completed his ophthalmology residency and medical retina fellowship at the University of Texas Medical Branch. A passionate educator and leader, Dr. Van Kuijk has served on numerous professional boards and committees, including the ARVO Foundation and the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He has also held leadership roles in academia and medicine, such as President of the Minnesota Academy of Medicine and the Rotary Club of Minneapolis University. Throughout his career, Dr. Van Kuijk has received various honors, including a Cum Laude Ph.D., the Tilman and Paige Fertitta Professorship, and multiple awards for his contributions to research and education. He is an active philanthropist, supporting initiatives such as the Dowling Society and Lions Club International.
