About Me
Emily Elizabeth Nelson, DO, is a board-certified family medicine physician who provides comprehensive, full-spectrum care for patients of all ages, from newborns and children to adults and older adults. Passionate about preventive health, healthy aging, and rural medicine, Dr. Nelson is committed to helping patients and families achieve their best health through every stage of life.
Dr. Nelson earned her undergraduate degree from Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas, before receiving her medical degree from the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine at the University of North Texas Health Science Center in Fort Worth. She completed her family medicine residency at Texas A&M Family Medicine Residency and St. Joseph Regional Hospital in Bryan-College Station, where she served as Chief Resident during her final year of training.
Following residency, Dr. Nelson practiced for four years at Georgetown Medical Clinic and St. David's Georgetown Hospital in Georgetown, Texas. She is excited to return closer to home and serve the Friendswood community through UTMB Health.
Dr. Nelson believes in developing strong partnerships with her patients through shared decision-making, open communication, and personalized, evidence-based care. She takes the time to listen, understand each patient's unique needs, and create individualized care plans that support long-term health and wellness. Patients often describe her as compassionate, approachable, understanding, and easy to talk to.
With broad training that included obstetrics, sports medicine, hospital medicine, endoscopy, and nursing home care, Dr. Nelson brings a well-rounded perspective to family medicine. Her diverse clinical experience allows her to help patients better understand their health conditions, coordinate care with specialists, and make informed decisions about their treatment.
One of the aspects of medicine Dr. Nelson enjoys most is caring for entire families across generations. She values the opportunity to see grandparents, parents, and children, often building relationships that span decades. By caring for patients throughout their lives, she helps them navigate important health milestones and supports healthy aging from childhood through adulthood and beyond.
Dr. Nelson has been recognized for her leadership and commitment to excellence throughout her career. Her honors include serving as Chief Resident at Texas A&M Family Medicine Residency, being named Rural Scholar of the Year by the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine, serving on the Physician Advisory Council for St. David's HealthCare, and being recognized as the top-rated family medicine physician in Williamson County in 2024 and 2025. She is also a Paul Harris Fellow with Rotary International.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Nelson enjoys traveling, especially cruising and visiting national parks, spending time with her family, and researching genealogy and family history. She lives in the Alvin area with her husband and daughter and is proud to serve the community she calls home.
