About Me
Dr. Thomas Blackwell graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree with Highest Honors from Pan American University, Edinburg, Texas; Medical Degree (Alpha Omega Alpha) from the University of Texas Medical Branch - Galveston, Texas. He completed his residency at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center. He is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Emergency Medicine. His special interests are student and residency education.
Dr. Blackwell is the Vice Dean of Graduate Medical Education and Clinical Affairs, Professor of General Internal Medicine, and Designated Institutional Official at the University of Texas Medical Branch. In addition to a busy practice, he holds multiple leadership and administrative roles at the University of Texas Medical Branch - Galveston. As the Vice Dean of Graduate Medical Education, he has administrative oversight of seventy+ residencies/fellowships and approximately seven hundred and fifty residents/fellows in training. Previously, he was the Program Director of General Internal Medicine, Medical Director for the Harborside Medical Group and Program Director for Internal Medicine Residency training program for nineteen years. His extensive involvement underscores his commitment to medical education and institutional growth at UTMB.
