Pediatric general surgery is a surgical specialty focused on babies and children of all ages who require surgical consultation for a large variety of problems:
- Abdominal: esophagus, stomach, small and large intestine, liver, pancreas, gallbladder, bile ducts, appendix and kidneys, including masses, cysts or cancers
- Chest: lung masses or cysts, rib masses or bony chest wall abnormalities, breast masses
- Genital: circumcisions, undescended testicles, testicular bulges, ovarian cysts or masses, vaginal problems
- Skin lumps, hernias
- Arm, leg or neck masses
- Secondary results of injuries involving chest, abdomen or skin and soft tissue

About Me
Sarah L. Mims, MSN, FNP-C, RN, is a board-certified Nurse Practitioner in Pediatric Surgery in the Department of Surgery at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB). She also serves as a Registered Nurse First Assist where she assists in the operating room with pediatric surgeries.
Ms. Mims earned her Master of Science in Nursing-Family Nurse Practitioner in 2011 at the UTMB School of Nursing. Prior to her current position, she was a registered nurse in the pediatric inpatient unit and in labor and delivery.
