Shivaiah Balachandra, MD

Dr. Balachandra earned his medical degree at the Kempegowda Institute of Medical Sciences/Bangalore University in Bangalore, India, where he also completed a pediatric residency.
After immigrating to the United States, Dr. Balachandra completed his residency in pediatrics as well as fellowship training in pediatric nephrology at the State University of New York Health Science Center, Brooklyn. Dr. Balachandra also worked with under served populations in Oklahoma and was voted the 1999 Physician of the Year by the Oklahoma Primary Care Association.
Prior to joining UTMB, Dr. Balachandra served as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatric Nephrology at the University of Kentucky in Lexington. He supervised and managed patients with a full spectrum of renal disorders, as well as provided oversight of the dialysis unit.
Dr. Balachandra is board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics and the American Board of Pediatric Nephrology. His interests include renal transplants and lupus nephritis in children.
