About Me
Dr. Saul Wong Fredrickson is a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in adult reconstruction and general orthopedics, with a focus on advanced joint replacement techniques that promote faster recovery and improved outcomes. He treats patients aged 18 and older and is dedicated to helping them return to the activities they love through personalized, evidence-based care.
Dr. Fredrickson’s clinical interests include same-day outpatient hip and knee replacements, rapid recovery protocols, and minimally invasive procedures designed to reduce pain and accelerate healing. He is highly skilled in muscle-sparing joint replacement techniques, which preserve surrounding soft tissue to support a more natural return to movement. Among these, he specializes in the direct anterior approach for hip replacement, a technique that avoids cutting major muscles and allows for quicker rehabilitation, less postoperative discomfort, and improved joint function.
His practice also offers robotic-assisted joint replacement, partial knee replacements, revision total hip and knee arthroplasty, and treatment for prosthetic joint infections and periprosthetic fractures.
Dr. Fredrickson earned both his undergraduate and medical degrees from The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. He completed his internship and residency in Orthopedic Surgery at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) in Galveston, where he served as Chief Resident and received multiple honors, including the Golden Bone Teaching Award and the highest score on the Orthopedic In-Training Exam in 2021.
He went on to complete fellowship training in Adult Reconstruction at OrthoCincy Orthopedics and Sports Medicine in Cincinnati, Ohio, where he performed hundreds of complex hip and knee replacements using robotic and minimally invasive techniques.
Board eligible through the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery, Dr. Fredrickson is also an Assistant Professor in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery and Rehabilitation at UTMB. He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS) and the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS).
Patients often describe Dr. Fredrickson as approachable, thorough, and deeply invested in their recovery. He takes time to listen, answer questions, and create clear, individualized treatment plans that align with each patient’s goals and lifestyle. From consultation through recovery, he provides continuity of care that builds confidence and trust.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Fredrickson enjoys spending time with his family, tackling home improvement projects, working out, exploring local restaurants, and traveling. He is married and has one child.
