Where I See Patients

About Me

Colin Bixler is a cancer and prenatal genetic counselor for the division of medical genetics and metabolism, within the department of pediatrics. He received his Bachelor of Science in Molecular and Cell Biology from the University of Connecticut. He later received his Master’s in Genetic Counseling from the University of Maryland Baltimore. While obtaining is Master’s, he completed rotations at University of Maryland Medical Center, Johns Hopkins, and Mercy Medical Center.

In his cancer clinics, Colin sees both pediatric and adult patients. During these appointments, Colin collects each patient’s personal and family history to provide them with an individualized risk assessment. This information is then used to discuss whether genetic testing is indicated and provides patients with personalized cancer screening and prevention recommendations. In his prenatal clinics, Colin sees patients for a variety of indications including but not limited to, discussion of genetic screening and testing in pregnancy, personal or family history of a genetic disorder, abnormal screening/testing results, or ultrasound findings. Colin also helps coordinate testing if indicated.

Colin provides genetic counseling services at several UTMB clinics. He is a member of the Texas Society of Genetic Counselors (TSGC) and the National Society of Genetic Counselors (NSGC).

Patient Reviews

Why do some clinicians have no ratings?
At UTMB, a clinician's ratings are only posted when she/he has a minimum of 30 completed surveys within the past twelve months. New-to-UTMB clinicians or individuals in less common areas of practice may be temporarily under this threshold. We set this baseline to ensure we offer the most accurate reflection of each Individual.
