Wenjie Zhan, OD, PhD, FAAO

Dr. Wenjie Zhan is a medical optometrist with UTMB Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences. She provides eye care at the UTMB Eye Clinics in League City. Dr. Zhan received a medical degree from Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine, and then finished her medical training and ophthalmology residency training in China. Following completion of her ophthalmology residency, she earned her PhD degree in Clinical Pharmacology of Vision Science. She practiced as an ophthalmologist in Guangdong Provincial Hospital for a year before she moved to United States. In the United State, she received her post-doc fellowship research training at University of Alabama at Birmingham, where her research was focused on glaucoma and retina.

She completed her Doctor of Optometry degree at University of Alabama at Birmingham and completed her Ocular Disease Emphasis in Refractive and Ocular surgery residency training at Woolfson Eye Institute. Dr. Zhan clinical focus is on the diagnosis and management of ocular diseases, as well as comprehensive eye care for adults and children. She is experienced in providing care for patients with a myriad of conditions, including dry eye, ocular injuries and infections, cataracts, uveitis, keratoconus, macular degeneration, glaucoma, and systemic diseases that can affect the eyes (for example–diabetes, hypertension).

Outside of work, Dr. Zhan loves spending time with her husband and their boys, travelling and exploring great restaurants. She is also a part-time photographer who loves taking pictures of her family.

Dr. Zhan speaks fluent English, Mandarin Chinese and Cantonese Chinese.
