About Me
Eugene Paul Harper, MD is an Assistant Professor of Medicine and clinician-educator in the Division of Infectious Diseases at the League City Campus. He completed fellowship in Infectious Diseases at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City in June 2023 before joining the faculty at UTMB. He completed Internal Medicine residency at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida in 2021 where he worked on the C. Difficile Diagnostic Stewardship QI Group and was awarded the Jimmy Moss Community Service Award for his work with underserved populations in local safety-net clinics. In his last of year of medical school at Mayo, he rotated with the CDC Outbreak Response and Prevention Branch, working on multi-state foodborne Salmonella and E. coli outbreaks as well as One Health Zoonotic disease prioritization workshops. He holds an M.D. from Mayo Clinic Alix School of Medicine in Rochester, Minnesota and a B.S. in Anthropology from the University of Houston. Prior to his career in medicine, Dr. Harper served in the U.S. Marine Corps as an Infantry Squad Leader, completing two combat deployments to Iraq.
