A urogynecology provider is a subspecialist of obstetrics/gynecology that has received special training to diagnose and treat women with pelvic floor disorders, including difficulty in bladder emptying, urinary hesitancy, urinary urgency, recurrent urinary tract infection, and slow or weak stream. They treat various types of incontinence, severe constipation and prolapse of the bladder or uterus. They do not treat gynecological or urinary cancer, kidney stones, deformed kidney, or simple urinary tract infections. For wellness exams, please see one of our obstetrics/gynecology providers.
In general the fields of obstetrics/gynecology and urology are quite different; however, in some specialized areas, the two fields share similarities and have a great deal of overlapping services. These specialists focus on pelvic organ prolapse, urinary and fecal incontinence.
