  • After completing post-doctoral training, Dr. White worked for 6 months as a visiting scientist in Venezuela before coming to Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas in 1989, where he rose through the ranks to full professor. At Baylor, He developed the International Health track for medical students. He was recruited to UTMB in 2007 to direct the Infectious Disease Division, in the Department of Internal Medicine. He co-founded and co-directs the global health track for medical students. He helped found the UTMB-Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia Collaborative Research Center in Cusco, Peru. He is a past president of the clinical group and former councilor of the American Society for Tropical Medicine and Hygiene and serves on the examination committee for the ASMTH certificate of knowledge in tropical medicine and travel health. He serves on the editorial board of a number of journals and writes chapters in major Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases textbooks. He directs the IDSA-ASTMH guidelines committee for neurocysticercosis. Dr. White's clinical interests include parasitology, tropical medicine, HIV, and opportunistic infections.
