Dr. Hustak completed his undergraduate training at The Ohio State University where he graduated Summa Cum Laude with a degree in Radiologic Technology in 2004. He then enrolled at The Ohio State University College of Medicine where he graduated Cum Laude in 2008 and earned membership into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. He subsequently completed his Anesthesiology Internship and Residency at UTMB where he earned Anesthesiology Departmental Awards for "Resident of the Year" in 2009, 2010, 2011, and 2012. He served as Chief Resident from 2011-2012 and was awarded "The Outstanding Overall House Officer" that same year among all residents across every specialty at UTMB. He then completed a Cancer Pain Fellowship at MD Anderson where he became proficient managing complex pain syndromes utilizing a multidisciplinary approach including multimodal pharmacologic treatments and complex interventional techniques to improve quality of life.
Dr. Hustak joined UTMB in 2013 where he trains medical students, anesthesiology residents, and pain management fellows. His clinical interests include cancer pain management with a focus on interventional techniques including intrathecal drug delivery and neurolytic pain blocks. He also treats chronic non-malignant pain and is particularly interested in spinal cord stimulation. Dr. Hustak is currently board certified in both Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine through the American Board of Anesthesiology. He is active in many quality improvement projects and physician leadership committees at UTMB. He is a loving husband and the father of two beautiful and energetic children.
