Dr. Swanson has significant experience with Image Guided Radiation Therapy as well as High Dose Rate Brachytherapy. He specializes in the treatment of cancers of the lung, gastrointestinal tract, prostate, female reproductive tract and breast. He also works to coordinate clinical trials, as a member of the Radiation Therapy Oncology Group (RTOG). His work has been recognized with several awards from the American Society of Clinical Oncology and the American Brachytherapy Society. He attended the University of California- Davis, as an undergraduate majoring in Genetics and Political Science.
After working in the laboratory focusing on molecular oncology at Genentech, he went on to pursue medical training at The Chicago Medical School. There, he completed both a Medical Degree (MD) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Microbiology and Immunology. He received his residency training at The William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, MI where he served as chief resident. Now at UTMB, he strives to integrate cutting edge treatments with compassionate care in the comfort and cure of cancer patients.
