Pakravan’s medical interests include glaucoma, cataract, and refractive surgeries including MIGS, Trabeculectomy, glaucoma drainage devices, LASIK, and PRK.
Pakravan joined UTMB from the University of Arkansas for medical sciences, where he was an Associate professor in the Department of Ophthalmology.
A Tehran, Iran native, Pakravan earned his medical degree from Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences in Tehran in 1992, completed his ophthalmology residency, and received a board of ophthalmology there in 1996.
After serving a glaucoma fellowship at Shahid Beheshti in 2000, Pakravan attended a research fellowship in glaucoma at Wilmer Eye Institute, Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore in 2004. Pakravan earned his MBA from Westcliff University in Irvine, California in 2021.
In 2004, Pakravan joined the ophthalmology faculty at Shahid Beheshti, where he was director of the glaucoma division and then educational director of the ophthalmology division. He remained at Shahid Beheshti University until 2019.
He has authored more than 100 journal articles and four book chapters and is a top contributor to EyeWiki, an online reference maintained by the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He is a reviewer for six ophthalmology journals and is a member of the editorial board for the Journal of Ophthalmic & Vision Research.
Since 2006, Pakravan has been a regular presenter at various ophthalmology congresses and meetings held worldwide. Due to his enormous contribution to the field of ophthalmology, he has received an Achievement award from the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
Dr. Pakravan is an internationally renowned expert in glaucoma. His contribution to clinical care, research, and education will be an asset to UTMB.
