He then moved to New York where he obtained an MD and MS in Clinical Investigation from NYU School of Medicine. His next move was to Northwestern in Chicago, IL where he completed his Integrated Cardiothoracic Surgery Residency followed by an Advanced Cardiac Surgery Fellowship focused on complex valvular and aortic pathology. His surgical interests include surgery for aortic aneurysms and dissections, valve repair and replacements, coronary surgery, redo cardiac surgery, and arrhythmia surgery. His goals are to medically and operatively treat patients, extend and improve their quality of life, and return them to their loved ones. He believes it is important for patients and families to be a part of their care plans, so he spends as much time as needed to help them understand the surgery and recovery process. Dr. Son moved to Houston with his wife, who is a surgery fellow in the med center, and their dog Tobi.
